In EF Academy’s final matchup last season against Animo City of Champions, junior athlete Aron Hyun stood out with his performance on the court, not just with his defense in the paint, but with the energy that kept his teammates fighting until the very end. The game, on senior night, ended with a comeback win that Hyun still recalls as one of his proudest moments.
For Hyun, who competes in both basketball and volleyball, that spirit of perseverance defines his athletic life. As a middle blocker in volleyball and a versatile scorer in basketball, Hyun has built a reputation for reliability and leadership. His height and arm span make him an impact player in both sports, while his calm confidence keeps him through the highs and lows of each season.
Hyun’s journey began with playing basketball and volleyball with friends for fun. Basketball became his first official sport at EF Academy, and from there his commitment grew.
“It depends on my mood,” he said when asked how he balances practices. “If the net is up, I play volleyball, but most of the time [I play] basketball.” What might sound lighthearted reflects a steady dedication. “I feel like I improve every practice,” he added. “No matter how easy or hard those games are, I try my best.”
That consistency was tested early. Hyun suffered multiple injuries during his first year. “One game, one injury,” as he put it, but each setback taught him to recover smarter and push further.
“Once I got injured, I stopped playing and gave my body time to recover,” he explained. This season, his goal is simple: stay healthy and keep improving in both sports.
Teamwork is another core part of his approach. “Always keep up the energy — not just yours, but your teammates’ too,” Hyun said. While he enjoys both team environments, he admits that basketball feels, “more of a team thing,” where bonds are tighter and everyone pushes each other to improve.
Off the court, Hyun’s lessons from sports extend far beyond wins or losses. “Always try hard, fight through your limit, and dedicate yourself to it,” he said. Those words summarize not just how he plays, but who he is: a leader, collaborator, and dedicated athlete whose quiet determination sets an example for others.
When asked to describe his journey, Hyun paused before summing it up in a single line that perfectly captures his growth:
“Many failures, a few breakthroughs, and a lot of growth in between.”
