Cupid on Campus: Valentine’s Day Grams at EF Academy Pasadena
Students at EF Academy celebrated Valentine’s Day with candy, roses, and classroom surprises thanks to a fundraiser organized by the community service club.
At EF Academy, the community service club organized a Valentine’s Day candygram fundraiser to celebrate the holiday and raise money for the organization, “Habitat For Humanity.” The fundraiser took place the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, where the students were able to purchase grams digitally and have them hand delivered to their “special someone” on the 13th.
Prices for the grams ranged from as little as $3, up to $10 dollars. The lower priced grams were coupled with a piece of candy and a card. While the pricier ones were paired with either a rose or “bundled” with a rose and a piece of candy.
The event was led by Kai Takeuchi and Arizona Alexakis who serve as representatives for the club and planned the primary details for the fundraiser.
Alexakis hand designed five different designs for the grams ranging from secret admirer, to best friend. Alexakis said, “I wanted them to feel real and not just printed,” she continued, “It’s nicer when you know someone made it.”
Takeuchi took a very different role in the Valentine’s Day festivities. He dressed as “Cupid” to deliver the grams during classes on Friday. Complete with wings and halo, he surprised the classes and they erupted in laughter and applause for the great bit.
MichaĆ Dzaikowicz, Senior, said, “The events had me shocked, to say the least. However, once the man in the headband [Takeuchi] arrived, I understood the events that were partaking. Many students clapped, as well as laughed.”
Both Takeuchi and Alexakis agreed that the event was a simple idea that brought the student body closer together.
Overall, the Valentine’s Day grams brought energy to the campus and gave students a fun way to show appreciation for their friends or crushes!
