Tucked away in the cozy town of Sierra Madre, Casa Del Rey is a local favorite for their delicious and homey Mexican food. This restaurant has been a top choice in my family for years! The waiter even remembers me when I was still learning to walk.
When you’re walking up to the entrance, the decor and atmosphere of the restaurant feels welcoming, with people chatting on the patio outside where seating options are available.
Immediately, we were welcomed by an employee, who sat our party of five quickly. The interior of the restaurant has charming, colorful decor, with somewhat dim lights. There are windows painted on the walls, and low hanging lamps in the corners of the building. In the back, there is a small bar with about eight seats available.

Before we even sat down, there were chips and salsa already set out for us, which were absolutely delicious. The chips were warm, as if they were freshly made. They also offered two options for salsa, a mild and spicy, which were both tasty. I personally preferred the mild, given my low spice tolerance, however the rest of my family ended up finishing both salsas.
The menu is extensive, so anyone can find something they would enjoy. They had everything, from burritos to fajitas, but I decided to meet in the middle and order a shrimp fajita burrito. The food came out somewhat quickly, only taking about 20 minutes for five dishes.
The burrito was prepared with a tomato based sauce poured over it, topped with melted cheese. Due to this, it isn’t the kind of thing you pick up and eat with your hands. It was delicious, and the flavors of the spiced fajita veggies and shrimp stood out alongside the other flavors from the sauce and cheese.
I will say, the portions that they serve are huge, and I had to tap out and take the rest of my food to go after eating only two thirds of it. In fact, nobody at the table was able to finish everything on their plate! Perhaps that was due to everyone getting full on the tortilla chips, but having delicious food to take home is never a complaint.
The waiter, who had been working at Casa del Rey for over twenty years, was able to tell me about the history of the restaurant. It turns out that it had been established for an incredibly long time, but moved locations from Baldwin to where it is now in Sierra Madre. He was even willing to share what he says is the reason for Casa del Rey’s food being so delicious.
“The ingredients are fresh, you can have the best recipes, but without good ingredients, it won’t turn out well.”
Overall, Casa del Rey is an easy-going place with comforting food. If you’re in the mood for a classy Mexican meal, this restaurant is the perfect place to go. It definitely deserves its local fame, and I am definitely going to keep returning so long as I live around the area.
