As graduation approaches, senior year marks an important transition from high school to college. This year, senior events for the Class of 2026 have expanded significantly, giving students more opportunities to enjoy their final weeks while celebrating their achievements.
According to Sarah McCarthy, Dean of Students, the purpose of senior events goes beyond simple activities. They are meant to recognize the hard work and accomplishments of seniors throughout their high school years. She explained, “senior events and activities are meant to be an opportunity to celebrate seniors in their last year of high school, and we want to recognize all of the accomplishments and achievements that you guys had”. McCarthy simply said, “childhood before you adventure off into college.”
One of the biggest changes this year is the increase in senior privileges.
Last year, off-campus opportunities were limited, mostly to Wednesday mornings near the end of the year. However, this year offers much greater flexibility. Seniors are now allowed to leave campus on Wednesday mornings as well as Thursday and Friday afternoons. In addition, students have access to senior days, are excused from study hall, and can use the gym earlier in the day.

Another meaningful addition is the introduction of “Senior Day,” a daily celebration where specific seniors are recognized by the school community. During these celebrations, students write small notes of appreciation and encouragement, creating a supportive and memorable experience. For example, recent celebrations highlighted seniors Ingram Chung and Paulina Hernandez, showing how the school continues to recognize individuals in personal and meaningful ways.
Students have responded positively to these changes. Senior Rachel Park shared her thoughts, saying, “Senior events are really enjoyable. I think there should be at least one day where we don’t have to go to school at all. Being able to go off campus, especially during Thursday lunch, is really nice, and going to places like Starbucks makes it even better.” Her response shows how these privileges not only give students a break from routine, but also create meaningful everyday experiences.

In addition to the current events, there are still more activities to look forward to. While details have not been fully revealed, McCarthy hints at exciting plans ahead, ” There are some more senior events coming, but I don’t want to give away all the details yet. It’s a secret! “ There will be a couple of on-campus celebrations to get people excited for graduation and spend time with friends” In addition, there are growing rumors among students about a possible “Senior Sunset” event, adding even more anticipation for what is ahead.
Overall, senior events for the Class of 2026 are more than just privileges; they represent a meaningful way to celebrate the end of high school. Through expanded opportunities and shared experiences, these events allow students to reflect on their journey while looking ahead to the future.
