After almost ten years, the Now You See Me franchise returns with its third film, “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,” featuring the famous illusionists known as the Four Horsemen. The film combines their classic tricks with a new generation of magicians, promising high-stakes heists, bigger risks, and a modern twist on the classic heist.
The story follows the Four Horsemen, a group of magician-thieves who use illusions to pull off impossible crimes. After disappearing for years, they reunite for another dangerous global heist. This time, facing more powerful enemies, and training and working with younger illusionists.
The movie jumps between performances, chases, and revealed secrets. And, just like the previous films, nothing is as it seems. It makes the audience constantly question what is real and what is a trick.
It’s great to see the original characters of the Four Horsemen back together, and the introduction of the new generation of magicians shows how the Horsemen’s legacy is being passed on. However, some of these characters don’t get much screen time compared to the others.
The main antagonist in the story is Veronica Vanderburg (played by Rosamund Pike). She’s cold and intelligent, and challenges the Horsemen in a more psychological way than past enemies.
The movie’s biggest strength is its visual style. The magic scenes are incredibly creative, flashy, and fun. The fast pacing keeps the film exciting, and the playful, mysterious tone is carried through just as in the previous films. The new characters also add freshness and room for future films.
Although entertaining, the storyline feels predictable, as it follows the same twist pattern as earlier movies, making some reveals less surprising. Plus, the film focuses more on spectacle than on emotional depth, which makes some characters feel underdeveloped. And last, in many scenes, a lot happens at once, which makes them feel cluttered and hard to follow.
The final rating would be 3.5/5. “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” is entertaining and enjoyable, with a charm reminiscent of its earlier films. Although it’s not the most unforgettable and doesn’t really reinvent the franchise, it provides enough excitement for the viewers and is worth a watch.
