The yearbook captured meaningful moments in students’ lives. It had different meanings depending on a student’s role. On the one hand, it represented a recap of the school year and preserved memorable moments. On the other hand, it reflected months of hard work and collaboration among team members. Overall, the yearbook plays an important role in school life, as it allows students to look back on their school memories.
From a Yearbook member’s perspective, the yearbook represented effort and responsibility. Minseo Kang, the Co-Editor-in-Chief, was mainly responsible for overseeing the team and assessing members’ work.
Kang explained, “I decided to join the yearbook club because I thought it would be meaningful to design and create my school’s yearbook myself.” She wanted to help design the yearbook for her final year at the school. She also described how a page went from an idea to the final version. Kang explained that the process began with brainstorming several theme ideas, such as music, movies, or Netflix.
However, due to possible copyright issues, yearbook members chose a music theme based on student survey results. In addition, she talked about how team members collaborated.
“Team members divided tasks such as photography, writing, and layout design,” Kang said, adding that they all worked together on a shared document.
When asked about the most enjoyable part of working on the yearbook, Kang smiled and said, “I enjoyed designing layouts and going to take pictures at special events. Seeing photos I took included in the official yearbook felt amazing.”
As a Co-Editor-in-Chief, she also shared that managing everyone’s tasks while handling her own responsibilities was challenging. “I always received help from my advisor when needed,” she said.
Through the yearbook club, Kang not only learned how to be a great leader but also developed design and photography skills. When students receive the yearbook, she hopes they will feel satisfied and remember their school years as some of the greatest times of their lives.
For the average student’s perspective on the yearbook, Annie Lu and Ingram Chung shared their experiences. They both purchased the yearbook last year. When they received the yearbook, Lu preferred to look for herself first, while Chung usually looked at the cover and basketball photos.
As a senior, Lu shared, “I was so excited to see pictures of my friends and me, as well as photos of the seniors.” When asked about the meaning of the yearbook, Lu said, “Personally, the yearbook represents a recap of the school year and captures the most meaningful and significant moments for me.”
Both Lu and Chung believed the yearbook is important because “it allowed us to preserve memories and look back on them in the future.” They also agreed that the yearbook was already well-made and said they were really looking forward to it.
From different perspectives, yearbook members tended to focus on the process and effort behind the book, while the average student focused more on the final product and the memories it held. However, both groups believe that the yearbook plays an important role in school life. Even though they have different perspectives, the yearbook connects creators and readers by sharing meaningful memories and experiences. Over time, the yearbook will become more meaningful as students look back on their school lives.
