About a 30-minute walk away from school, Baja Cali Fish & Tacos has gotten the reputation as one of the area’s best spots for authentic Mexican seafood. While it may look like any other fast food restaurant from the outside, it instantly caught my eye when walking by.
What makes it stand out is simple: generous portions, delicious food, and great value for the price. Inside the restaurant, you will be greeted with unique and iconic yellow and black themed decorations, chairs, and walls. Other elements like bright lighting and high ceilings also make the place feel energetic. The layout is straightforward and functional. Behind the counter is an open preparation area for customers to see their food being freshly prepared.
“We focus on authentic Mexican food, freshness, customer service, and a unique dining experience,” said a staff member interviewed. His favorite item is the Baja Cali Fish Taco, a giant taco with roasted fish and fried shrimp on a flour tortilla.
Fish tacos are also the most popular item, especially on Tuesdays when they cost just $2 each. The store sells more than just tacos, however, the menu includes unique seafood items like different types of ceviche, and even a seafood tower, demonstrating the freshness of their ingredients and Baja identity.
On Uber Eats, the Super Baja Cali Fish Taco is especially popular because of its insane buy-one-get-one deal. For only around $22 before taxes, you get an almost surreal portion size of essentially four regular burritos. Even at this price point, the quality and quantity of the ingredients aren’t compromised either. The burrito includes fried fish and

shrimp, carne asada (beef), guacamole, optional rice, cheese, and a choice of refried or black beans. The burrito is packed with different flavors but they are well balanced; the crispy seafood and roasted tortilla contrast with the creamy guacamole, while the beef adds a different flavor and texture. Despite the variety of ingredients, the food isn’t overwhelming at all; it is filling and satisfying.
The Baja Cali Fish taco, on the other hand, has similar ingredients and is larger than normal tacos and has a generous amount of roasted fish and fried shrimp. For non-seafood enjoyers, the Carne Asada Taco is a great alternative. The beef is tender and balanced between fat and lean; the taco is simple and fair-priced.
Every weekday, there is a different deal, such as fish tacos for $2 each every Tuesday, 8 shrimp tacos for $16.99 each every Thursday, and more. These deals make this restaurant especially appealing for those who want to enjoy food on a budget.
Compared to local competitors, the large portions, affordability, and consistency are its biggest advantages; however, because the items are freshly made when ordered, the wait time can be pretty long (around the same time or longer than Wing Stop, if you are familiar). Customers also have to order at the counter and proactively ask questions.
According to numerous Google Maps reviews, Baja Cali Fish & Tacos offers a delicious and affordable option that makes locals keep going back. After visiting the restaurant three times, I was consistently surprised by the portion sizes and flavors. If you like seafood or Mexican food, I would definitely recommend trying it out, whether through ordering or taking a walk there, you will not regret it!
