The EF Academy golf team consists of two dedicated coaches, Coach Sean and Coach Chris, and eight golfers who share a passion for the sport. They are teammates, but more like a family because they motivate each other to be better each and every day.
At 3:45 every afternoon, the team gathers in front of Robinson and proceeds to the driving range, where they practice their swings, putting, and game in general. Two times a week, they do more than just that by practicing at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena, where they implement what they have learned and sharpen their skills on fairways and greens.
With Coach Sean, a pro golfer and last season’s Pasadena champion, at the helm, the team receives expert guidance and instruction. Coach Sean’s passion and experience inspire the players to do their best, whether they are beginners looking to learn the fundamentals or seasoned golfers looking to play at a higher level. “I am so very happy with the golf team,” Coach Sean said, “it is a difficult season! Nobody on the team – including your coaches – has experienced the CIF High School golf league. So, we’re all learning as we go!
“Of course, the wildfire damaged all of our local practice facilities,” he continued, “so we’ve been forced to adjust and adapt. Everyone has been so good at keeping their mood positive with all of this going on. My goals at the beginning of the season were one, have fun, two, learn about competitive golf, and three, improve our golf skills. I see everyone making progress on all three! Let’s have fun as we begin our competitions!”
Sean, an 11th grader on the team, said, “I think this golf team is well-balanced because it focuses on both fun and competition at the same time. I decided to join the team because I like to play golf and be in a competition with my friends. Our team will most likely be second to third in our division which is okay, but I see the potential. I am devoting myself to the team by participating in every practice and classroom.”
Besides competition and practice, the EF Academy golf team is also built on a strong sense of brotherhood. They congratulate each other’s wins or good shots, motivate each other to get better, and create lifelong friendships outside the golf club. On a casual practice session or on a competitive outing, the team embodies sportsmanship, determination, and the spirit of the game.
