With winter break less than a week away, the EF Academy Boys’ Basketball team hosted their second-to-last home game before the end of this semester on December 7th. From having two starters injured to walking off the floor with a 62-20 loss to Rosemead High School, it was a tough night for the team.
After a loss to Flintridge Prep on Tuesday, the team yearned for a win in their next game. “It will also be a competitive game, but today’s focus will be mainly on the 50/50 balls (both teams have an equal chance of obtaining possession of a loose ball). We worked on better communication between each player. Patience is also a crucial factor to win the game tonight,” said Coach Roy just before the game started.
As the ball was tipped off, the game started and the Rosemead Panthers immediately led the game by 8 points, stopping the EF Academy Boys from taking over in tonight’s match.
“Rosemead was more aggressive and had the urgency to get the 50/50 balls. It was a tough game, and the moment Vincent and Akito went down it was impossible to come back,” said coach Roy after losing the game last night. “However, our freshmen Lucas and Hayoon stepped up and played hard and physically, giving us some positives tonight.”
When asking about both players Akito and Vincent’s conditions last night, coach Roy stated that it appears they both injured their ankles, and ankle injuries need time to rest to recover. “As of now I would list them as questionable for Saturday,” coach Roy responded.
“We need to do more pump fakes and attack efficiently when we are passing the ball around. We should continue to lead our team during offense and defense even if we have a turnover or miss a shot,” said Akito during lunchtime today.
Akito also reported that after leaving the school last night, he went to Urgent Care for treatment. “I sprained my ankle after stepping on someone’s foot, causing my foot to land on the floor at a 90-degree angle. I think it will take at least 2 weeks to recover.” Taking 2 weeks for Akito to recover from his injuries also means that he will not be able to play for the rest of the games this semester.
The next game for the Boys’ Basketball team will take place on December 9th at Southwestern Academy, let’s hope both Akito and Vincent have a speedy recovery and wish the Boys’ Basketball team the best of luck in their last away match of this semester.
