Today, in our society, technology is an indispensable tool for students. Indeed, everything is made to be used on computers or phones, things such as assignments or homework are now given to students through online applications. Work is expected to be made through websites, or digital platforms.
But, since technology is a tool of advancement, it is expensive and hard to purchase for the majority of the population. The California Department of Education estimates that a total of 230,000 students lack the necessary technology. This absence of technology creates inequalities in access to resources and in capacities to provide good work or expected work.
I believe that social inequalities should not take place at school, and even less for access to education. For example, back home, in France, I know a lot of people who experienced these inequalities, and that is why some schools decided to give computers to all students, so everyone has equal access to resources. I saw an important change before and after the program; it was easier for the teachers because everyone was able to provide the work they were asking for, but also for the students who were feeling uncomfortable because they were unable to afford a computer.
That is why, I think that the California Education Department should set up a system in which schools provide the necessary resources for all of the students.
